There is an exhibit in Jameos del Agua that shows all the different colours of sand in Lanzarote, over 30 in all. Somehow people think of Lanzarote of only having black sand. There are black beaches, such as the secret beach that we visit, and it if very attractive in its own right with turquoise waves and white foam breaking on lava rock. In the north of the island there is white sand but colour is not the main factor. Beaches here are clean with great swimming opportunities and Famara beach is nearly always ideal for surfing. You can learn to surf on your day off, subject to availability and surfing conditions (waves being too big!!)
